I spent from 1996 to 2009 working for a start up. We beat Nike to market with the FitSense FS-1 speed and distance monitor for runners. A lot of other companies fell in line, copying our product, and FitSense was forced to change focus into the "wellness" market. We later sold the design of the NIKE + footpod to NIKE, and got along until we merged with a slightly larger startup, FitLinxx.

In November 2009, I decided to try to bootstrap my own business the way the FitSense founder had done. I actually started Stillwater Embedded Engineering in 2001 during a 1 month hiatus from FitSense. It was established to do contract work, which I did for Fitsense, converting a desktop database app (NetLink) to a server side cgi program.

I continue to work on my own ideas at home with the tools that I have. I take an occasional contract job expanding from electronics and hardware to web programming. The freedom to learn new skills is refreshing.
