Chat with
Tech Support
I was pretty new to
web programming with Apache and SSI, and clicked on my provider's "Online Chat"
button to ask a question. Here's how that went:
Please hold for the

You are now chatting with 'Tech Support'
Tech Support: Hi Joe. My name is Harry, how are you today?
Joe Wronski: Hi Harry, I'm well,
Joe Wronski: Can I use 'XBitHack on' in my .htaccess file?
Tech Support: May I place you on hold for 4 or 5 minutes, while I check this
for you?
Joe Wronski: sure
Tech Support: Thank you for holding.
Tech Support: Can you please provide me more information on 'XBitHack'?
Joe Wronski: Just a minute...
Tech Support: Sure.
Joe Wronski: Documented at http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_include.html#xbithack
, it allows the use of SSI with html files, rather than needing shtml. If no, I
can get around it with a DirectoryIndex index.shtml directive
Tech Support: May I place you on hold for 4 or 5 minutes, while I check this
for you?
Joe Wronski: I'm here all night, ba da bump!
Tech Support: Thank you for holding.
Tech Support: You can use any proper code in .htaccess.
Joe Wronski: But some directives can be blocked at the server level, and it is
site dependent
Joe Wronski: So the question should have been, does iPage server
configuration allow xbit hack in user virtual servers
Tech Support: Unfortunately, we don't support virtual servers.
Joe Wronski: You mean I have my own hardware server? I'll figure it
out.
Joe Wronski: nite, and thanks
Tech Support: You're welcome!
Tech Support: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Joe Wronski: all set thanks
Tech Support: Thank you for chatting with us. Please feel free to contact us at
any time. We are available 24x7.

Bye!
I had found the
answer by myself well before the end of the chat.
